CEP 810 |Teaching Understanding with Technology
Melissa White

Throughout this course, we were asked to identify how we  could improve our teaching with technology by considering how to apply TPACK (Teaching, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge). As students, we were asked to explore various internet based tools and consider not what they can do, but how they could be used to help students learn. This learning went even further when three other group members and I used one of these newly introduce resources, Google Docs, to create a presentation about the benefits of text to speech software. On top of developing our teaching resources, we also explored how to develop a Personal Learning Network.

CEP 811 |Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Emily Stone

The internet contains many powerful tools, but they are not always designed for teaching. During CEP 811, we explored how resources online can be utilized as educational tools. In order to sort through this, we developed lessons that worked to incorporate the principles of TPACK (Teaching, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge). One of the most influential components of this was the explanation and exploration of UDL (Universal Design Learning) principles, which are guiding techniques that can help all learners’ access information in a better way. One of the culminating components of this class was a StAIR (Stand Alone Instructional Resource) that allowed learners to explore content without an instructor having to direct them. For this I created a self-teaching and guiding grammar quiz.

CEP 812 |Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Jodi Spicer

The Wicked Problem Project was one of the largest focuses of CEP 812. The Wicked Problem I worked on tackling was organizing the 1:1 student laptop program we have. To do this, I focused on installing a computer monitoring program that allowed staff to monitor and interact with all student computer screens during instructional time. In addition, I worked with a group to develop a video introducing the power of the iPad, which was fairly new during the time in which I took the course. This video was meant to serve a professional development opportunity for another professional looking to further explore how to use technology in their teaching.

As part of the hybrid model of learning presented by the MAET (Masters of Arts in Educational Technology) program, I spent six week studying why certain methods of instruction are effective, how I could apply various tools to apply these methods, and what needs to be done in terms of helping others accomplish their goals with technology. The first two weeks of the course were spent in face-to-face with the instructor and my peers. These two weeks ran on an 8-4 in-class schedule and often included out of class work. During this time, we completed many technology based projects that allowed us to explore and utilize new tools, such as wikis, photo editors, website editors, HD cameras, movie editors and more. The remaining four weeks, were completed online and served as time to continue reading educational discussions, while completing an online portfolio of our work. This was displayed on our last day of class in exhibit style.

The experience of converting a PE class to semi-online module did present a challenge, but I decided to approach the task using the flipped classroom philosophy so more time could be spent being active in the course. The website I developed for the course featured videos of the skills in focus for the net activities I was attempting to teach. The website serves a solid standalone resource without even applying the discussion and quiz sections of it. To this day, I still use the site on student iPads, as they can learn skills independent of a group and stop a skill to review the proper mechanics.

CEP 816| Teaching and Learning Across Curriculum
Rand Spiro Ph.D.

Technology is like a power that if corralled appropriately can lead to dynamic experiences in education, but if not harnessed, can lead to movement without purpose or even frustration. In CEP 816, the objective was to explore how the continued application of technology is changing how we obtain information as learners. One example would be the hyperlink in a web document, which allows a reader to jump to relevant alternative discussion at the click of the button. To clarify some of our thoughts on this, the final project in the class was to engage in an organic pursuit of a new idea we wished to apply in our teaching and clicking areas of interest to further delve into our discoveries. Our final project was a documenting where our technological travels took us and how it impacted our TPACK based decision making.

Representing the capstone of the MAET (Masters of Arts in Educational Technology) program at Michigan State University, the focus and final task of this course is to design a web based portfolio that showcases our individual journey through the program. The portfolio is meant to represent the collective body our work along with a reflection of our professional accomplishments. Through the creation of the portfolio we are taught research based design strategies when it comes to using a web design tool. Furthermore, the portfolio is meant to serve as a resource for other educators looking to explore ways they can improve their teaching through the use of technology.

TE 846 |Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Ashley Smith

Two to the biggest focuses in the education, literacy and differentiating, will be the focus of TE 846. This course will also help fulfil the new reading requirement necessary to obtain a professional teaching certificate. This course has yet to begin, but I hope it will help be understanding how to assess my students as they engage in the reading and writing process. I also, hope that various methods of introducing this content to all learners will be focused on. I will update this section after accomplish more in this class.
